Harvard Faces Two Issues: Offers Anal Sex Workshop and Taking Photos of Participants Secretly

(Photo : Reuters) Harvard University faces two issues related to anal sex workshop and taking photos of students and staff secretly.

Harvard University is now under fire as reports about the involvement of the prestigious school surfaced saying that they are now offering seminars on anal sex. They are also being criticized for the secret classroom photos they reportedly took.

Harvard is a top college in the United States and these are unlikely issues to be linked to them. However, it has been reported that the school offered a seminar last Tuesday discussing anal sex as it aimed to promote a "holistic" approach on the subject.

The workshop was called 'What What in the Butt: Anal Sex 101' and is said to be part of the annual Sexual Health Education and Advocacy throughout Harvard College, or SHEATH's "Sex Week". The event is dedicated to a week of programming and helping students understand their body parts, as well as talking over subjects that are not discussed as often as others.

According to the "Sex Week" site of Harvard, the students who were able to attend the workshop learned about anal anatomy and the "potential pleasure to all genders". The site added that the event focused on how one would talk about the act with his or her partner and the basic preparations involved, as well as hygiene, lubes, anal toys, and safe sex practices. The site was also enthusiastic in adding that there was a lesson on anal penetration for beginners.

The course description of the said workshop described it as a class that would let students understand the misunderstandings about the topic. Also, an official from "Good Vibrations", a store selling toys related to sex, attended the said workshop and talked about the topic. They added, "They will dispel myths about anal sex and give you insight into why people do it and how to do it well."

Aside from that, "Sex Week" also provided students condoms and other materials from California Exotic Novelties.

Due to the criticisms received by the workshop on anal sex, SHEATH co-president Kirin Gupta said in a report the following statement: "Saying we don't need [the workshop] is like saying we don't need sex education, or should have abstinence-only education." He added that the backlash about their workshop just proves that homophobia is not yet eradicated.

The other issue faced by the school involved photos of both students and faculty members, which were taken secretly, as Harvard pressed it was for a study related to classroom attendance. The issue was confirmed by Vice Provost Peter K. Bol.

The students and teachers were not aware that they were being photographed, but the researchers pressed that they did not want the result to end up as biased. Harvard administrators said that the cameras took photos every minute and a computer program was used to count the occupied and unoccupied seats.
