Pope Francis completely disagrees with the right-to-die movement Saturday. The leader of the Catholic Church said that euthanasia is mortal sin and against the will of God.

The religion is against the euthanasia and assisted suicide calling it a "false sense of compassion." It strengthens the signs of "throw-away culture" that belittles the sick and senior citizens in the community.

The church believes that life starts at the moment of conception and should be taken by natural death only.

A 29-year old American woman, Brittany Maynard with terminal brain cancer died on Nov.1 by assisted suicide. After her last message with family and friends, she took a lethal prescription from a doctor in Oregon.

Maynard said that she wanted to die under the state's death-with-dignity law.

Monsignor Ignacio Carrasco de Paula, the head of the Pontifical Academy for Life, said that Maynard did a major sin. Although Maynard took her life with the intention of dying with dignity, what she did was wrong, he stated.

"Suicide is ... a bad thing because it is saying no to life and to everything it means with respect to our mission in the world and towards those around us," Monsignor de Paula explained.

Pope Francis, however, did not specify the case of Maynard on his remarks on euthanasia during the meeting of the Association of Italian Catholic Doctors.

The Catholic leader also reminded the people that the church is against abortion, stem cell studies and  in vitro fertilization. These are against the teachings of the Bible and to perform these acts is wrong especially when the act threatens human life.

The Pope said to participate in such acts is to commit a sin against God because they are tantamount to "playing with life."

According to Pope Francis, suicide and the other abovementioned actions are seen by the creator. Life should be treasured because it is "sacred, valuable and inviolable," he said.
