Glen A. Larson: The Man Behind TV's All-Time Favorite Shows Is Dead

Glen A. Larson, the popular and talented television writer-producer who was best known for his work in Magnum P.I., Battlestar Galactica and Knight Rider, has passed away. He was 77 years old.

The writer-producer passed away on Friday night due to esophageal cancer at the UCLA medical center in Santa Monica, California, his son James was by his side.

Glen was born an only child on January 3,1937 in Long Beach before moving to Los Angeles with his parents when he was a young boy, it was there where he became enthralled with the art of storytelling by listening to the radio for hours in a day.  

Larson, who started his career as a page boy for NBC, ended up writing and producing a lot of noteworthy series and cult classics such as ABC's 'It Take's a Thief' which starred Robert Wagner who also happened to be the writers fellow Hollywood high school alum. He was also responsible for NBC's hit show, the McCloud, the show starred Dennis Weaver as a sheriff from New Mexico who moves to Manhattan to help the big-city cops.

Other shows Larson created included The Bear, Switch, Manimal and B.J. And The Bear. He spent the early part of his career working for Universal Studios where he invented new shows and reworked some others, in 1980 he moved to 20th Century Fox with a multimillion-dollar multiseries deal.

Glen passed away surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Pledger, a brother and nine children from his two marriages. 

His son James announced that there are plans for a public memorial service.
