Charles Barkley Stands Pat On 'Controversial' Comments Ferguson Comments

Turner Sports basketball analyst Charles Barkley stood by his opinion on the racial issue surrounding the Ferguson shooting, saying people never talk about race until a bad situation crops up.

Barkley is known for bringing issues to people's attention and the Ferguson incident is not an exemption. He regarded the rioters who torched the buildings and police cars as "scumbags" and added that these kinds of situation degrade successful African-Americans.

In an interview on Tuesday with CNN's Brooke Baldwin, Barkley also dished out his opinion on the grand jury's decision, agreeing with the the decision to not indict former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. The said white officer shot the black teenager Michael Brown, who was reportedly unarmed.

Barkley also told Baldwin that he does not believe white cops are out to shoot black people just because of racism, deeming the thought as ridiculous. He then called for a dialogue but noted that it is not because of the controversial issue of Brown adding,

"We never discuss race in this country until something bad happens," Barkley said, describing this kind of thinking as one that reflects a tribe mentality.

Tribe mentality involves acting to protect one's tribe members without considering if they are right or wrong. Communities call for cops to clean up the neighborhood but they rant about racial profiling whenever something related to it happens, Barkley explained.

"We as black people, we have a lot of crooks. We can't just wait until something like (the Brown shooting) happens," said Barkley. "We have to look at ourselves in the mirror. There is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is wrong, and sometimes it is right."

He did, however, commended majority of the people who took the streets in Ferguson and other cities who made peaceful demonstrations despite the decision of the grand jury. He said that those who does things peacefully make up a good foundation for the country.

Charles Barkley also talked about the Brown's grandfather who was caught saying "burn this b*tch down" and said he should not be charged for saying those things.
