Old iPods are up for Grabs for as Much as $90,000

The iPod Classic is no longer a world beater but people are reportedly willing to pay as much as $90,000 just to get an old model of the Apple product.

It's been reported that a rare version of the iPod classic was bought for $90,000 on eBay, while another had a list price of US$180,000. The second seller is having trouble finding a buyer. Meanwhile, another seller with a sealed first-generation iPod sold the product for $20,000.

It's not been confirmed if the information on eBay is true but a number of other iPods have been listed on the site with four-figure prices. There is, however, no way to confirm if buyers are actually paying a lot to get their hands on these gadgets.

The $90,000 iPod sold is said to be a factory-sealed UK model of the special edition U2 iPod sold back in 2004. The fourth-generation iPod features the engraved autographs of four members of U2 on the back side.

The iPod came with a 20 GB drive and a battery life of 12 hours. The battery hasn't been used in a decade so critics say it might have some serious performance issues if it still even works.

The iPod classic is no longer in producton because Apple CEO Tim Cook said they could no longer get the parts for it anywhere on Earth.

"The engineering work was massive, and the number of people who wanted it very small. I felt there were reasonable alternatives."
