Netflix Execs Say Broadcast TV Is On The Way Out But Tina Fey Doesn't Think So

While Netflix's execs believe that broadcast TV is already heading towards extinction, Tina Fey, meanwhile, thinks the other way.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, says TV is going through an "evolution" that will eventually see the demise of broadcast.

"Broadcast is meant to be super-broad in a world that's more and more fragmented," Sarandos explained.

He also said that there exists a noticeable gap "between ad-supported" shows and what and how people watching today."

Sarandos seemed to support Netflix CEO Reed Hastings's premonition while saying that Netflix will survive because it could evolved into "a brand," "a place where viewers know exactly what they will get," New York Daily News writes.

Sarandos, however, said that traditional broadcast networks would have a hard time coping up with this evolution.

Actress Tina Fey, however, thinks otherwise. The actress, whose new TV show The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premieres  March 6 on Netflix, thinks that broadcast TV is not really bound towards end.

The award-winning TV star, however, was delighted that her new show was moved to Netflix after it was initially slated to air on NBC.

"Modern people aren't always at their TV at 8:30 on Thursday or whatever And so I think it's great for the kind of people who watch these kind of shows that they can watch it when they want. It just makes more sense than broadcast," Fey said.

Rather than seeing it as a competition, Fey believes that NBC's move was a rather smart decision to get people to see the show.

She went on to saying that airing the show on Netflix works for "NBC's best interests" and "for the show to have its best home."
