Whirlpool's 'Kitchen of the Future' tells You What's Spoiling and What's Cooking

Kitchens are the next big project for Whirlpool in the coming years. The company introduced its "Kitchen of the Future" concept during the 2015 International CES that will allow home owners to track what foods are nearly spoiled and what they can cook.

Whirlpool said kitchen surfaces could act like touch screens while video conferencing will be integrated into its future kitchen in case you want to ask people about a recipe. Text messages and alerts from social networking sites can also be viewed while you're busy in the kitchen.

The kitchen surfaces will also be able to detect the items you have in your fridge and tell you what's foods are fresh and what's not. The kitchen surfaces will also recommend what you can cook based on the items already present.

Whirlpool says this is possible due to a "smart vessel" that carries the food items and keeps track of their number, weight and even freshness. Instead of the vessel telling you an item has totally gone bad, it tells you the number of days before it's completely spoled so you can still eat it while it's edible.

There will also be a virtual shopping list so you won't forget the ingredients you need to buy. A stovetop connected to your smartphone will tell how much you should cook if someone drops by for a bite.

"We don't have a firm date in the future, though we are using this as a place to start the discussion. We want to make sure we are ready for a more connected experience when our consumers are, too. This could become a reality before the 2020 timeline if we get feedback to push hard with this sooner", said Whirlpool in a statement.
