TLC Launches Kickstarter Campaign To Finance Final Album

Grammy-winning R&B group TLC is launching a Kickstarter campaign to gather enough funds from fans to enable them to launch their final album.

The two-member group composed of T-Boz and Chilli started their campaign on Monday.

"We've always been known to do things differently," said Tionne Watkins, more popularly known as T-Boz, who went on saying that the girl has always been "trailblazers and trendsetters."

T-Boz also said that now is the "perfect opportunity," to launch their final album.

T-Boz and Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas are now on the process of producing their fifth album, and they hope they could collect at least US$150,000 before their tour begins in May. The cash would be spent on studio time, production, musicians' salary and for their promo tours.

TLC is not the first act to launch a Kickstarter campaign. Neil Young also turned to Kickstarter to fund his digital music project PonoMusic, enabling him to raise US$6.2 million thanks to his 18,000 supporters.

Donors  are entitled to receive an exclusive digital track and communicate the singers during recording process. Those who would pledge for bigger amount will get exclusive VIP concert tickets, a recorded custom voice mail by T-Boz and Chilli, an in-person fitness class by Chilli, as well as freebies, including wardrobe pieces worn by singers on their music videos.

TLC gained fame for their back-to-back hits, particularly "Creep," "Waterfalls" and "No Scrubs." The group grabbed the Grammy for their second album, CrazySexyCool, which also sold over 10 million copied worldwide. The group, though, had faced a streak of badluck that led them to file for bankruptcy in 1996.

The group's last album, 3D, was launched in 2002, shortly after the death of group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.
