Conrad Hilton, Paris Hilton's youngest brother, is facing charges Tuesday after arguing with a flight crew on a trip from London after allegedly calling passengers peasants and causing children to cry following death threats and profane tirades while on board.

The 20-year-old hotel chain heir is wearing a dark suit and shirt buttoned to the collar when he proceeded to the U.S. District Court with chains on his ankle while his hands were handcuffed at his waist. The judge asked him if he knew his rights and the charges filed against him, which could end him with 20 years behind bars if found guilty.

An unsecured bond worth US$100,000 was settled for his temporary freedom.

Hilton is currently scheduled for arraignment March 5 and was ordered to continue with his mental health treatment.

Hilton's rants started just a few moments after British Airways Flight 269 took off July 31, continuing throughout the 10 1/2-hour flight, a 17-page affidavit by FBI agent David Gates said.

Hilton was behaving rather bizarre, ignoring to keep his seat belt fastened. He continued moving back and forth about the aisle as the aircraft ascended. He was told to get back on his seat but instead became unruly. He then swore to kill several flight attendants and the co-pilot, before threatening to have them removed from their job.

"I could get you all fired in five minutes. I know your boss," Hilton said, according to documents.

"My father will pay this out, he has done it before. Dad paid US$300,000 last time," he continued.

Hilton is the youngest child of businessman Rick Hilton and socialite Kathy Hilton. Rick is the grandson of Conrad Hilton, founder of the family's hotel fortune.

According to Hilton, meanwhile, he was mad after his breakup with his girlfriend and had wanted to smoke marijuana. He even went to a lower deck restroom to smoke pot, which became noticeable when the odor came out.  A copilot confronted him after which Hilton ran to an upper deck restroom to smoke a cigarette.

Hilton eventually fell asleep. He was handcuffed for the remainder of the flight.
