Apple has hit another record. For the first time since 2012 there have been more iPhone sales in the U.S. than Android sales combined.

It comes after the incredible second half of 2014 where Apple managed to sell over 74 million devices in one quarter, thanks largely to the huge adoption in China. In the U.S, over 25 million iPhones were sold in Q1 2015.

Previously, Apple had around 35 to 40 percent market share in the U.S., but the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has pushed that number to 50 percent.

The adoption of larger screen sizes has won over millions of would-be Android users, who decided to go with the larger iPhones instead of a device from Samsung, HTC or Motorola.

Even though Apple managed to hit extraordinary numbers in 2014, that doesn't mean every Android provider failed to deliver. Motorola announced double the sales in 2014 and LG announced similar results-even OnePlus managed to hit one million sales.

However, due to the failure of Samsung in 2014 and the lack of HTC sales, it has made the U.S. market Apple's play ground.

The growth of Apple's hardware sales puts more pressure on iOS services, which are lacking in comparison to Google's apps. Apple is reportedly investing more in Apple Maps, alongside creating a search engine to rival Google.

Apple is also preparing to relaunch Beats Music with a $7.99 monthly subscription, undercutting Spotify and Rdio's price-tag.

The next big announcement for Apple will be the Apple Watch, coming this April. Apple has invested millions of dollars in talent and components for the smartwatch, and needs this investment to pay off.
