No Room for Disillusionment for Chinese ISIS Recruits

ISIS Crisis

Once a jihadist, always a jihadist - appears to be the policy of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Three recent Chinese recruits of the Islamic extremist group discovered belatedly that there's no turning back for them after they have committed to be part of the organization.

The three are among the estimated 300 Chinese, mostly from the Xinjiang region of China where the Muslim minority Uighurs are from, who have joined the ISIS.

While China is not supporting the U.S.-led Coalition in airstrikes, Beijing has also been critical of the Turkish government for providing refuge to Uighur members who join the Middle Eastern terror organization by using Turkey as entry point and then travelling to Syria or Iraq.

But the three found out recently that they can no longer leave ISIS. Their alternative was to leave this earthly life, which ISIS readily granted by executing the three Chinese deserters.

One of the three was arrested, tried and gunned down in Syria in late September for leaving ISIS. He wanted to go to Turkey and study, instead of participating in a jihad after he became disillusioned over what he experienced.

The other two were decapitated in late December in Iraq, along with 11 other deserters from six countries. They were accused of treason and attempting to flee the movement, reports The Global Times, a newspaper run by the Communist Party of China.

The three are among the victims of ISIS' atrocities, which besides beheading and firing, has included burning alive its prisoners like what happened to 1st Lieutenant Moaz al-Kasasbeh, the Jordanian pilot captured by ISIS after his plane crashed in enemy territory.

ISIS even wanted to double-cross Jordan in a proposed prisoner swap when the caliphate sought the release of an Iraqi female bomber detained since 2006 in Jordan for the life of the pilot, who has been dead while they were dealing in connection with the release of Kenji Goto, the Japanese hostage of ISIS beheaded last week.
