The long-running veteran TV host has announced his plans of retiring from The Daily Show, E! News announced.

The humorous late-night host announced that he would be stepping down from his hosting gig during the taping of today's show. Comedy Central took to Twitter the news to confirm Stewart's announcement.

According to the statement, Stewart " will remain at the helm of The Daily Show until later this year." Comedy Central praised him for being a " comic genius" and for his generosity in spending his "time and talent." The statement went on to saying that he will always remain "a part of the Comedy Central family."

Comedy Central President Michele Ganeless was thankful to have met and worked with Stewart.

"For the better part of the last two decades, I have had the incredible honor and privilege of working with Jon Stewart," he said.

Ganeless praised Stewart for his "comedic brilliance" and for his efforts in "championing and nurturing the best talent in the industry" whether on and off screen.

It was through Jon's "unique voice and vision," that The Daily Show was propelled to becoming a "cultural touchstone for millions of fans and an unparalleled platform for political comedy that will endure for years to come."

Stewart has been hosting The Daily Show since it premiered on TV in 1996.

Shakeups have recently plagues many late-night hosts. First was Jimmy Fallon, who's transferring from Late Night to The Tonight Show with his stint on the former to be taken over by Seth Meyers. James Corden, meanwhile, is succeeding Craig Ferguson on the Late Late Show, while Stephen Colbert's Colbert Report has just ended because he's taking over the Late Show after David Letterman decided he would be retiring.
