George Karl One Step Closer to Being Head Coach of Sacramento Kings

While it has been a long and winding road, it looks as if the Sacramento Kings will get exactly what they want in the end, as George Karl is one step closer to becoming the team's next head coach.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports said that Karl and the Kings have agreed on a four year deal.

Karl will be replacing Tyrone Corbin, who was just recently laid off after the National Basketball Association's (NBA) All-Star break.

The team hopes that Karl can bring some order to the Kings.

The Kings have been in disarray since December of last year when owner Vivek Ranadive ordered the firing of then head coach Mike Malone.

That decision was reportedly opposed by the Kings front office.

At the time, Malone was not doing a bad job. He had amassed an 11-13 record, while also connecting with superstar DeMarcus Cousins. The latter's effort has not been replicated by a coach since.

After the unwarranted and unwanted decision of firing Malone, the expected happened: losing.

The Kings went on the decline, losing numerous games and Cousins falling back into a slump reminiscent of a time before Malone connected with him.

Thus, Karl is viewed a giant band aid that will hopefully fix several things wrong with the Kings. However, they also view his arrival to be a long-term effort to fix the Kings on a winning path.

In Karl's first four coaching season - two with the Cleveland Cavaliers (1984 - 1986) and two with the Golden State Warriors (1986 - 1988), Karl won only 40 percent of his games.

His time with the Seattle SuperSonics though saw an improvement in his coaching that he has continued to work on and evolve.

Throughout his ongoing career, Karl has left behind a wake of improved teams and wins. In the 2012-2013, he won the Coach of the Year award in Denver.
