Jessica Chastain Joins Chris Hemsworth in Universal’s ‘Huntsman’ Spinoff

It's official-Academy Award nominated actress Jessica Chastain has been signed to Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron in Universal's "The Huntsman."

There were also rumors that Emily Blunt will join the cast, but this has not yet been confirmed. The Snow White and the Huntsman spinoff is to be directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan with Joe Roth as its producer and Palak Patel as the executive producer.

The details of the plot have not yet been revealed, but the film will center on the lives of the Huntsman Eric (Hemsworth) and Ravenna and how they met before Snow White came into the scene. Details of Chastain's character was not yet even discussed.

The film's recent draft screenplay was written by Frank Darabont. He was actually slated to direct the movie, although he had a fall off. Earlier drafts were also written by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos.

The movie is slated for release on April 22, 2016. The film's production would be overseen by Universal's vice president of production Maradith Frenkel and creative executive Chloe Yellin.

2014 was a busy year for Chastain, appearing in a variety of films, ranging from the super hit Interstellar to such prestige productions, like A Most Violent Year and Miss Julie. Chastain is also slated to appear in Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak, which will hit theaters in October, and The Martian in November.

Chastain, who got an Oscar nomination for her role in The Help, has become a prolific actress since she made her feature film debut in Jolene (2008). In 2011, she shot to fame after appearing in six films in just one year! In 2012, she landed her first Broadway role in The Heiress.
