Ford praised the script after reading it, calling the second installment as the "best thing he's ever read."

Ford plays the role of Rick Deckard in the film, which showcases a dystopian Los Angeles in November 2019. The scene focuses on genetically engineered replicants, which looks different from adult humans and are being manufactured by the powerful Tyrell Corporation.

The sequel however has no clear plot as of the moment.

Ridley Scott is slated to produce the sci-fi thriller. Alcon's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson will also co-produce the movie..

In a statement, Kosove and John said that they are "honored that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent.

Furthermore, Kosove and John take pride that they have created a "uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time."

The statement continued that they were really "thrilled with this amazing, creative team."

The original Blade Runner was nominated in various Hollywood film awards, including the Oscar for best art direction and visual effects.

While the film initially divided critics, some were not happy about the pacing, while the others hailed it for its thematic complexity.  While not a box-office hit of its day, Blade Runner eventually became a cult classic, praised for its production design that showcased a "retrofitted" future, and remains a watershed figure of the neo-noir genre.
