Giuliana Rancic Blames Writer For Zandaya’s Hair Comment

After asking for apologies for her scathing remark about Zendaya's hair that eventually got the ire not only of Zendaya, but also netizens and other celebrities, Giuliana Rancic is now blaming her writer for the misshap.

The 40-year-old E! red carpet correspondent told in an interview with Access Hollywood's Billy Bush that the taping of "Fashion Police" was usually close to the Oscars, so they could manage to plan for a few lines.

Rancic was really supposed to say "she looks like she smells like patchouli oil," which should have been followed by "I heard she's going on a tour with the Grateful Dead," with reference to the hippie culture. Likewise, nobody on the set thought that what she said was really racist.

After Rancic quipped about how her hair smelled like "weed," Zendaya immediately slammed the TV host on Instagram, telling her that she was really upset with her "ignorant slurs."

"There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful," Zendaya wrote in long note.

"To say that an 18-year-old with locs must smell of patchouli oil or 'weed' is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive."

Rancic also endured the criticism of netizens after that, forcing her to ask for public apology. Rancic eventually explained that she "didn't intend to hurt anybody."

"Therefore, I want to say to Zendaya and anyone else out there that I have hurt, that I am so, so sincerely sorry. This really has been a learning experience for me," she said.

Zendaya eventually accepted Rancic's apology, posting online:"Giuliana, I appreciate your apology and I'm glad it was a learning experience for you and for the network. I hope that others negatively affected by her words can also find it in their hearts to accept her apology as well," she wrote.
