"Two Sessions" For Gay Marriage: Gay Son's Father Pens Letter To 1,000 Chinese Lawmakers

The father of a gay son, identified as Lin Xianzhi, penned a letter to 1,000 lawmakers two days before the "two sessions" for gay marriage, which will tackle the legalization of same-sex unions, kicks off.

According to reports, Lin is from Jiangxi and he is a 61-year-old civil servant in the Chinese province.

Aside from him penning the letter, there were around 20 volunteers who helped him write the 1,000 letters.

It was then given to the lawmakers of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the National's People's Congress as these two will be meeting for the issue. There was no news about any reply from the recipients of the letter yet as of today.

The letter of Lin talks about his hopes of helping gay couples be married and enjoy the same rights that heterosexual couples have, such as inheritance, having medical care, and obtaining a property.

According to a news piece by Gay Star, Lin said that his son came out to him as gay back in 2011 and he said in a statement to the publication that there is no difference between a heterosexual husband and wife and a gay couple.

He also finds it unfair that his son could not get married.

Lin reportedly joined an organization called Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) in order for him to understand and accept the chosen sexuality and path his son has taken.

He then campaigns for his son and his son's partner regarding their rights. His son and his partner have been together for three years now.

The legalization of gay marriage came after Chinese sociologist Li Yinhe passed a proposal about the issue in 2013 to the National People's Congress.

It then became a legislative proposal and is on its way of being a law if and when the two sessions decide that it should be.

Also, members of PFLAG wrote a letter addressed to the First Lady of China as they appealed for legislation against gay discrimination and equal rights.
