Owens hit J.T. Codd, the husband, with a pickup truck, reports WSPA-TV. But he did not tell investigators how he killed Cristie. He admitted to their murder and destroying their bodies which were recovered near a wood-burning stove in Owen's house.

Their corpses were sent to the coroner's office for forensic analysis. Also found in Owens's home were 11 knives, a saw blade and debris, reports AJC.com.

The Buncombe Sheriff's Office charged Owens on Tuesday with killing the couple and their unborn child. He was also accused of breaking, entering and larceny. He entered their home on Sunday and took a laptop, jewelry and a Glock handgun, which had a combined value of $1,500.

Owens had also admitted to entering the homes of his victims and taking things. He was familiar with the house because he was hired by the couple to fix their home. But investigators do not have yet a motive for the crime.

Investigators estimate that the couple died on Thursday. The break-in was discovered on Sunday after a relative reported the couple missing after they failed to contact either of the two.
