A photo of a bobcat that waded into the Atlantic Ocean off the Florida coast has gone viral as it quickly escalated into a predator versus predator scene when the huge cat seized a four foot shark and dragged it to shore.

John Bailey from Fort Pierce was walking along the Sebastian Inlet State Park near Vero Beach when he suddenly noticed some uncanny movement and witnessed the incident, taking a photo of the bobcat bringing in a shark on his cellphone.

Bailey told WPLG-TV he first spotted the bobcat when it was spying on the shark feeding on smaller fish in the shallow waters. The bobcat suddenly lunged into the water where it caught its prey and dragged the shark along the beach.

Bailey said the whole incident was really quick. He said the bobcat spotted it and pulled it up as the shark was floundering. He admits being fascinated by nature unfolding itself in front of him that he didn't considered himself to be in danger.

Bailey said that when the bobcat saw him in the area, it immediately dropped the shark and scampered into the nearby wooded area.

Biologists believe this particular shark could have been an Atlantic Sharpnose under three feet in length even as a full adult.

The Atlantic Sharpnose is considered an inshore shark species commonly found in the surf and also bays and estuaries. Adult sharks can also be seen off shore. Newborns measure anywhere from nine to 14 inches in length. These sharks also feed on a regular diet of small fish and crustaceans.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission noted that the bobcat didn't break any laws and they said there are no shark fishing regulations for bobcats, only for people.
