Low-rise trousers are now banned in Florida's Ocala City as a councilwoman drives the ordinance into a vote for five years, convincing her colleagues to prohibit wearing saggy pants.

The ordinance passed in July and propagated by Mary Sue Rich makes it unlawful to wear pants two inches below the natural waistline in Ocala, Florida.

"I'm just tired of looking at young men's underwear, it's just disrespectful," Rich stated in an interview with ABC News.

People caught violating the ordinance on city property, whether owned or leased, would be confronted with a fine of up to $500 or possible jail time, though they may be allowed to go free with a warning for their first offense.

Council members of the town located north of Orlando have decided to support the new regulation through a unanimous vote.

The proposal on the ban on saggy pants was set aside in 2009 because of more pressing issues on race concerns.

However, not everybody is happy with the new law, including Mayor Kent Guinn who may opt to veto it. Other locals also criticized the ordinance stating that it seems to have a 'racist and sexist' sound to it.

"It just makes no sense whatsoever. It's another way to lock people up and put them in jail so the city can make money off of that," Ocala resident Adia Crumley told the Daily News.

In the past, Louisiana's Terrebone Parish and Wildwood in New Jersey have passed a similar ordinance forbidding the wearing of low-slung pants exposing the skin or undergarments in public where offenders are either fined or assigned to perform community service.

A city in Wisconsin tried to put a stop to wearing of saggy pants though contenders eventually swayed them to 'butt out.'
