Ricky Rubio has been the topic of recent trade rumors especially with the looming 2015 NBA Draft on June 25. What makes him one of the trade headliners? The widespread reports that the Minnesota Timberwolves are planning to select D'Angelo Russell as their top pick, which makes Rubio dispensable in the roster.

NBC Sports' Pro Basketball Talk reported on Wednesday that Wolves coach and president Flip Saunders is eyeing Ohio State standout Russell to be the future point guard of their young basketball team. And with that, he also wants to trade Rubio for a chance to acquire a big man that will complement Russell and 2015 NBA Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins.

Reports also went out that Rubio wants to be traded and his agents are currently talking with the Wolves' management.

However, SB Nation's Jesus Gomez reported that Rubio "flatly denied" these speculations while talking to a Spanish journalist, saying that he conferred with his agents and they confirmed there was no truth behind these rumors.

The 24-year-old Rubio, who had been injured for the most part of his career since 2012, is a young veteran that leads an even younger crop of talents. Wiggins is only 20, Anthony Bennett is 22, and Zach Lavine is 20. The Veterans on the team are Kevin Garnett (39) and Kevin Martin (32), who are also injury prone.

The management's vision seems to be going for a younger point guard with great shooting range and athleticism, and Russell can provide that for them in the long term.

But the Wolves should also take note that according to official stats, they are a better offensive team with Rubio on the floor than without him. They are +8 points per 100 possessions with Rubio orchestrating the plays. Yes, he is not a superstar scorer like Steph Curry or Kyrie Irving, but he gels a team together like no one else can.

These are the points that the T'Wolves management should look into before deciding on June 25.

Meanwhile, Rubio told RealGM that everyone in the league is definitely tradable, except maybe LeBron James. If management decides to swap him away, then he acknowledges that he can't do anything about it. But asking if he's ready to get traded, his answer is a sure and definite "no".

Where else would he want to go?
