Speculation of Infiniti Red Bull Racing looking to hammer a partnership with a renowned sports car maker has been the main subject these past couple of weeks. There's no doubt that Red Bull is performing badly this season, but returning to the top of the constructor's championship will be much easier, if this rumored deal pushes through.

However, reports ahead of the British Grand Prix in Silverstone revealed that the iconic sports car marquee Aston Martin is considering an option to come into Formula One, if Infiniti Red Bull Racing will allow them to be their partner with a rebranded Mercedes Engine.

Aston Martin boss Andy Palmer admitted that he's open to get the brand back on Formula One circuit for the first time since 1960, though he won't make any drastic measure until he was presented a concrete proposal.

"The paddock is always full of rumours. We have to explore ways of getting Aston Martin's name known around the world and we currently use the World Endurance Championship principally to do that," Palmer told Auto Sports.

"My job is to concentrate on turning Aston Martin around. If something drops into our lap and if suddenly those stars align, would I consider it? Yes."

Having their worst season in the past eight years, Infiniti Red Bull Racing future plans are currently uncertain. Red Bull top bosses are starting to doubt the French firm's ability to develop a competitive and reliable V6 Hybrid power unit. Renault itself also thought to acquire an existing outfit in Fomula One, with the cash-strapped Lotus well known to be their main target.

As of now, Infiniti Red Bull Racing's only option could be to accept a customer supply from Ferrari, Mercedes or Honda if they still want to keep on. But the potential to pursue under a different brand could well provide a short-term solution for the team.

The emergence of a partnership with Ashton Martin as a possible option could play a pivotal role in Red Bull's future in Formula One. In a relation to Mercedes, the German firm have a 5 percent stake to the brand, a deal that allowed all the new range Ashton Martin sportscars to use an AMG developed engines.

Besides, newly appointed CEO Andy Palmer arrived at Aston Martin from Nissan. He was the agent who was instrumental in dealing Red Bull's title sponsorship deal with Nissan's luxury brand Infiniti in the past.

Despite of these gossips, team boss Christian Horner is not that convinced about the suggestion that Red Bull could be considering a Mercedes customer engine supply from 2017 under the Aston Martin banner, as they have also been linked to Ferrari in recent weeks. All he knows was that the team already penned a contract to the French firm until 2016.
