The long awaited "Angry Birds 2" app was released at the end of July, 2015. The eighth sequel to the pull and fling formula  was preceded by "Seasons," "Rio," "Space," "Friends," "Slingshot Stella" and the two Star War games that sprang up shortly after the original game.

As per The Guardian, the real reason behind calling the new game "Angry Birds 2" is that the developer Rovio have created a reboot, which brings back the bird-sling basics with amped up production values and an improved design to serve on as a freemium game. Though the latter element could be the biggest risk and biggest opportunity for Rovio, it could catapult the game to the lucrative billion dollar revenue world of mobile games, following "Candy Crush Saga" and "Clash of Clans."

A report at Macworld highlighted that not all the new tweaks are for the better of the game. The news further goes on to praise the new beautiful aesthetics of the new game, but also points out that this game offers more opportunities to fail than the previous version. The new game also has multi-stage missions, which comprise of three or four different screens of structures to take down. The new design allows one to deal with 'bird cards' with familiar creatures that enable one to pick and choose a new bird for each new fling.

The randomly generated level layouts add an interesting twist to the game.  However, the goal of the game is no longer limited to just smashing pigs, one needs to destroy the beams and blocks all the way to unlock the extra birds to finish-off the stage. One might be tempted to pump-in a few extra bucks to sail through a tricky stage, buy power ups or even refill lives after a bad run.

The new "Angry Birds 2" app isn't just all about the freemium design. It's the randomisation that might be bothersome.  The skill-killing power-ups and play interactive ads might compel one to switch to a more focussed version of the game by dropping in some extra bucks. This mobile gaming app is all a play for quantity over quality and is most likely to end up being successful.
