According to informed sources, the workers from Consumer & Computer Products Business Group in Foxconn Longhua factory, Shenzhen went on strike on July 24th. Today, the journalists have obtained the exclusive pictures and videos about the strike.

At 9 a.m. on July 23rd, about 200 workers from Foxconn Longhua factory joined in the strike. These workers made a march from their work area in Consumer & Computer Products Business Group to the labor union of Foxconn Longhua factory. The workers asked for higher salaries while they marched through the factory district.

Why do these workers go on strike?

No. 1

Wage dispute is the main reason for the strike. A worker who joined in the strike told a journalist that Foxconn raised the salaries for technical staff in one of their departments by 20 percent. But Foxconn didn't raise the salaries for other types of workers, such as the workers in Foxconn producing departments.

No.2

Foxconn didn't make a full payment of the worker's year-end bonuses and performance bonuses. The Foxconn workers only got half of their deserved year-end bonuses and performance bonuses, which increased their dissatisfaction towards the company.

No.3

Foxconn is reducing overtime hours. In December 2012, the Wall Street Journal reported "a majority Foxconn workers work 10 to 15 overtime hours and would prefer more, having left their distant homes to make money." In 2010, an ordinary worker can work 80 to 90 overtime hours per month. But in 2012, the overtime hours are limited within 48 hours per year. This is another cause for discontent.

It was reported the strike lasted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 23rd. The workers who participated in the strike returned to work at 3:30 p.m. that afternoon. Foxconn promises they will figure out a solution based on workers' request.
