911 Dispatcher Faces Consequences for ‘Poorly Handling’ Call About Baby Locked In Hot Car

A Florida 911 dispatcher faces consequences for failing to assist a frantic Florida mom who accidentally locked her 10-month-old son inside their scorching car.

Florida mother Shana Dees immediately called 911 after her baby was trapped inside their sweltering car at a day as hot as 95 degrees.

Upon realizing that her son, Jack, had her car keys when she strapped him at the back seat of their car after leaving a Tampa drug store on Saturday, Dees immediately called 911 for help using a stranger's phone.

Based on the recording, the distraught mom asked the 911 operator if they could send someone to open her car's door because her son was trapped inside.

Much to her surprise, the dispatcher did not immediately send help and cited that rescuers won't be able "to gain access [to the] car unless the child is in some kind of distress" and that she should just smash the windows when that time comes.

"I was just sitting there, watching him get hotter and turn redder, and he was soaked with sweat," Dees told ABC affiliate WFTS.

The dumbfounded mother then sought the help of an off-duty police officer who called 911 again after a few minutes and received the expected response that help is on the way.

However, a Good Samaritan chose to break the car window's glass instead to help the already flushed and sweating 10-month-old baby Jack.

Local authorities at Tampa declared that the dispatcher, who handled the case poorly, will be disciplined. However, Tampa Police Department spokesperson Andrea Davis clarified that the dispatcher did not refuse to send police officers on the scene.

The dispatcher has been moved to administrative duty while probe on the incident is going on.

In spite of the nerve-racking incident, Dees was still grateful to those who aided her in rescuing her son.
