Utah Approves Opening of Winery in Town Controlled by Warren Jeffs' Polygamous Sect

In a town located at the Utah-Arizona border, which is largely controlled by Warren Jeffs' polygamous sect, a commercial winery has been given the license to begin operations soon - a move which is believed to be yet another sign of the different lifestyle choices of those who are part of the extremely religious group.

According to the state inspector, Abe Kader, there are five owners of the winery three of which reportedly hail from Hildale, Colorado, and Utah.

The state liquor authorities revealed that the owners plan on processing mainly red and rose wines using grapes purchased abroad. The wines will be sold to other state-owned liquor stores throughout Utah.

The owners failed to attend the state liquor commission meeting where their license was approved. The winery will soon be the 13th winery in Utah.

The owners also did not return the calls of Isaac Wyler, an employee of the state-controlled organization managing lands in Utah. Wyler revealed that the registered address for the winery, called "Vintage Reserve Estates," is supposedly in Hildale on one of the properties belonging to Jeffs' sect.

However, state liquor authorities allege that the owners plan to sell the company to Hildale in the future.

The Utah-Arizona border is largely populated by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, headed by Warren Jeffs. The followers of Jeffs separated themselves from the mainstream Mormon practices.

Polygamy, which is prohibited in the Mormon religion, is practiced freely by those from the FLDS church. Mormons also avoid alcohol as well as coffee and tea but the polygamist sect has more lax rules and allows the consumption of these beverages.

The leader of the FLDS sect, Warren Jeffs, was imprisoned earlier this year and is now serving a life sentence in Texas for sexually assaulting young girls by marrying them and claiming they were his wives.

However, the jailed leader is said to still maintain tight control over the religious group through members who visit him in prison.
