A Facebook status posted by a mother resulted in the expulsion of her four-year-old son from a preschool in Callahan, Florida.

The parent, Ashley Habat, recently took to the social networking site her personal frustrations against the management of the preschool where her child was enrolled. According to Habat, the main cause of the incident was the insufficient notice given by the preschool regarding her son's picture day. Despite the privacy settings of her personal Facebook page, the preschool still managed to view the post due to Habat's decision to tag Sonshine Christian Academy. Subsequently, the school administrators sent her a letter stating that her son has been expelled.

In the meeting following the posting of the Facebook status that incited the issue, Sonshine Christian Academy explained to Habat that the school administrators deemed it best if their working relationship is halted. According to Habat, the preschool officials felt that they "weren't the right fit of parent relationship with the school". With this statement, Sonshine Christian Academy proceeded to terminate her son's enrollment in their institution.

The Facebook status that spurred this decision questioned the ability of the academic institution to fulfill their responsibilities. "Why is it that every single day there is something new I dislike about Will's School? Are my standards really too high or are people working in the education field really just that ignorant," Habat posted.

The next day, Habat received a letter of dismissal from Sonshine Christian Academy. The letter says, "Your relationship with Sonshine did not get off to a very good start the first day of school...you utilized social media to call into question not only the integrity, but the intelligence of our staff. These actions are also consistent with sowing discord, which is spoken of in the handbook you signed."

At present, no response has been given by Sonshine Christian Academy regarding the issue.
