FIBA World Cup: Coach K Points Out USA’s First-Half Slip vs Turkey

Mike Krzyzewski

After trailing Turkey in the first half, Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski stated that the team cannot be complacent against any team in the competition.

The American team found themselves in a familiar situation. Back in August 30, 2010, they faced Brazil and Team USA were down by three points, 46-43, in the first half before making a successful second half run. They finished the game with a 70-68 win.

The situation definitely called coach Krzyzewski's attention when he gathered his men and told them to step up and take control of the game.

The head coach stated that they allowed Turkish team to take control of the pace in the first half. He acknowledged that the team played poorly before taking over the second half.

"I think sometimes when you have a game like we did last night, when you are scoring at will you tend to take things for granted. We can't afford to do that especially when we play teams like Turkey, who were coming off a very good win," said the Duke University coach while pertaining to Team USA's 114-55 blowout win against Finland.

Krzyzewski went on to commend Kenneth Faried and Anthony Davis when they pick up the slack for the team.

Faried is USA's main man scoring a total of 26 points with eight boards. 18 of his points as well as his six rebounds were recorded in the second half. Team USA rose to the occasion by dropping shots from beyond the arc.

With Team USA's wake up call, coach Krzyzewski pointed out that the team learned to "never get behind." The 67-year-old coach explained that how the team responded to the situation proved that they are a good team.

The American team will have a day off on Monday before their clash against New Zealand on Tuesday.
