The upcoming big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling series of books tells the story of a man on a quest to save his dying world by journeying to the nexus of universes - the Dark Tower.  Elba's hero is a gunslinger and the last living descendant of Arthur Eld - an ancient king equivalent to King Arthur. Roland Deschain is said to be immortal and very old.

Elba is joined by Matthew McConaughey as the main antagonist Randall Flagg a.k.a. The Man In Black. Randall Flagg often appears under different names throughout King's original series and is described as a powerful sorcerer and servant of the dark side.

Other members of the cast include Abbey Lee, Katheryn Winnick, Jackie Earle Haley, Claudia Kim, Fran Kranz and Tom Taylor. Nikolaj Arcel of 'A Royal Affair' fame is helming the first film in the planned extended cinematic series.

'The Dark Tower' is an upcoming film adaptation of the original fantasy novels by acclaimed author Stephen King, which incorporates Western, fantasy and horror genres. It is scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017.

Efforts to bring King's novels to the big screen began way back in 2007, but production has been plagued with difficulties under different filmmakers and studios.
