La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid is reportedly set to beat English Premier League giants Manchester United for the £60 million signature of Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.

The Daily Star reported that according to club president Florentino Perez, Real "will consider a bid for" the 23-year-old Frenchman in the summer transfer window "if he is available".

Pogba is also said to be a major target by new United head coach Jose Mourinho in the offseason as the Portuguese mentor wants to "reinforce the spine" of the Red Devils for a possible Premier League title contention next season.

Pogba started his professional career with United back in 2011 as he also came from the club's youth academy. However, he was sold by the team in 2012 to Juventus where he eventually became "one of the finest midfielders in the world game", as per Caught Offside.

Mourinho reportedly wants to bring Pogba back to the Old Trafford as he had been a long-time fan of the French international. The 6-foot-3 midfielder would allegedly be a perfect fit for the Special One's schemes because of his height, versatility, and box-to-box skills, something that Mourinho had always been looking for when it comes to midfield talents.

However, United is not the only one interested in snagging Pogba out of Turin with the reigning Champions League winners ready to submit an offer if the opportunity comes in.

"Pogba is a great player, but in midfield we have six great players, so I would not want to discuss speculation," Perez said. "While he excites me, it is difficult to reach agreements if there are no termination clauses (in a player's contract)."

The Real president was talking about the ambiguity of Pogba's contract as Juve did not specify any amount as a release clause. There were only speculations that the Lagny-sur-Marne, France could cost £60 million for potential buyers.

"If a player such as him (Pogba) is available, we may go for him, but would have to reach an agreement," said the executive. "It is very difficult to bring someone (in). I'll talk to (Zinedine) Zidane. Our obligation is to be much better every year. He will decide if we can get someone better than we have."
