President Xi Calls for Demobilized Military Officers to be Employed

China's President Xi Jinping stressed in a statement on Tuesday that the country has a duty to provide employment for demobilized military officers.

According to Chinese state media, President Xi pointed out that providing civilian jobs to demobilized military officers is a political task. He added that this is linked to national defense and military reform.

Xi's made the statement in a speech delivered at a meeting of China's top leadership.

Xi described demobilized military officers as the treasure of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the nation in general and an important force in building socialism in line with the characteristics of the country. The president voiced assurance that their employment will be handled well so these officers will be able to play their roles in the development of the country.

He noted that declining to provide positions to these demobilized officers is not allowed under any circumstances. Xi also said that there will be a long-term solution regarding the arrangement of civilian jobs for demobilized military officers.

He called on managements to improve their measures in regards to this matter. Other relevant policies, laws, and regulations will also be reformed in the long run to perfect the public service system.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said in a statement that "Demobilized officers should be given guidance so that they can make fresh contributions."

Vice Premier Ma Kai also weighed in on the issue saying that demobilized officers should be offered training and that support should be extended to their families.
