German Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 dominated Chinese Super League squad Guangzhou R&F FC, 6-1, in a preseason friendly match held at the Yuexiushan Stadium on Tuesday, July 5.

Die Knappen controlled the match from start to finish as head coach Dragan Stojkovic's side were clearly outmatched by the Europeans in terms of skills and tactics.

The Blue Lions started the game confident that they can give the visitors a good fight, pushing forward and creating chances early on in the match. However, midfielder Johannes Geis was able to convert a free kick from teammate Sascha Riether to open the scoring right at the fifth minute of the contest, as per Schalke's official website.

New manager Markus Weinzierl's side netted another one just eleven minutes later as Leon Goretzka received a pass from Geis and scored on a header, making it 2-0. Goretzka scored his second goal of the evening with an individual move at the 26th minute to build a 3-0 lead.

Guangzhou managed to find the back of their opponents net with four minutes left before the break courtesy of winger Chen Zhizhao, but Schalke quickly re-established the three-goal lead, 4-1, with a fantastic shot from vice-captain Klaas-Jan Huntelaar right before the stroke of halftime.

The restart saw most of Weinzierl's men substituted, but two more goals in the second half, both from Argentine forward Franco Di Santo, put the game away in a lopsided fashion.

Schalke is scheduled to compete in two exhibition games for their China visit this month. The win against the Blue Lions is the first one while a second match, this time versus CSL champions Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC, is set on Thursday, July 7, at the Century Lotus Stadium in Foshan, All Sports News indicated.

Die Königsblauen is expected to face stronger resistance against the five-straight domestic champions and two-time AFC Champions League winners.

The Southern China Tigers boast off international players such as Jackson Martinez, Paulinho, Ricardo Goulart, Alan Carvalho, and Kim Young-gwon plus most of their players are members of the China national football team. Guangzhou is also coached by World Cup-winning mentor Luiz Felipe Scolari.
