Chinese electronic components maker Dongxu Optoelectronic Technology Co., Ltd. has revealed a prototype graphene battery pack for mobile phones it claims can be fully recharged in as little as 15 minutes.

Called "G-King," the graphene battery has a 4,800 mAh capacity and completely recharges in 13 to 15 minutes. Dongxu says G-King can be discharged and recharged in 3,500 cycles, which is seven times better than conventional Li-Ion batteries.

Chinese state media claims G-King is the world's first graphene battery. Experts said this achievement might also facilitate the development of graphene batteries for electric cars.

Dongxu revealed G-King at a recent event in Beijing but didn't say when the graphene battery will be ready to market.

Big battery mobile phones packing 4,000 mAh to 10,000 mAh batteries are all the rage since the internet is accessed mostly on mobile phones these days. People are also using their mobiles longer.

Among phones with batteries in this range are the Asus ZenFone Max comes with a 5,000 mAh battery; the Lenovo Vibe P1 with a 5,000 mAh battery; the THL T7 with a 4,800 mAh battery and the Oukitel K10000 with a massive 10,000 mAh battery.

In 2015, Samsung revealed it was working on a graphene battery for mobile phones 1.8 times more powerful than those in use today.

Based in Beijing, Dongxu (formerly Shijiazhuang Baoshi Electronic Glass Co., Ltd.) is engaged in the production and sale of electric vacuum glass devices and associated electronic components. It also develops, manufactures and sells flat panel display glass substrates, including TFT-LCD glass substrates, glass substrate outfits, A-frames, overflow bricks and glass tubes, among others.
