The first round of the application process for the audition is slated to take place in early August, according to Soompi. The audition is only open to working actors or those who have past acting experience. There are speculations that a Chinese actress is likely to be cast as Hong Seol.

The webtoon "Cheese in the Trap," created by Soonk Ki, has a huge following and has attained a cult status, and when its television adaptation was announced, fans were euphoric.

The television version of "Cheese in the Trap" began on a high note, with both fans and critics praising the director's vision and actors' performances. However, toward the middle of the drama, fans started expressing their displeasure at how Park Hae Jin's character was shaping up. They also complained that director was focusing more on the second lead Baek In Ho, played by Seo Kang Joon, and ignoring the main characters and their love story.

Fans' murmurs soon snowballed into a full-fledged controversy, with both Soonk Ki and Park Hae Jin expressing their disappointment at the way the drama shaped up. The final episode wrapped up on an open ending, which further infuriated fans.

For the movie version of "Cheese in the Trap," Soonk Ki is onboard as a writer, and it looks like none of the actors from the drama will be returning to reprise their roles, except Park Hae Jin.
