Ferguson Police Flaunt ‘I am Darren Wilson’ Bracelets Following Michael Brown Memorial Fire

Photos of Missouri police officers spotted wearing 'I am Darren Wilson' bracelets went viral over the Internet following reports of a mysterious fire at a Michael Brown memorial in Ferguson on Tuesday.

The image, showing on-duty Ferguson law enforcers wearing the band in support of their colleague, was posted on Instagram and has been shared numerous times over the week.

Missouri Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson confirmed that the officers have been wearing the bracelet but explained that it was not a law enforcement statement and was merely individual support for the accused Ferguson police officer.

"When we wear this uniform, we understand that we've got a professional standard that we adhere to," he stated adding that he would soon speak with the officers who flaunted the provocative accessories about professionalism.

Reports indicated that the statement, no matter where it came from, might trigger unrest again for the small suburban town in St. Louis, especially after a fire scorched a makeshift memorial for the teenager on Tuesday.

Police said the fire was ignited by vigil candles left in the area but Brown's supporters believe that someone may have intentionally set the fire.

After Tuesday's fire, some 200 members of the predominantly-African-American community took to the streets for another protest where the statement bracelets were first spotted.

A few days after, the photo of the controversial accessory had emerged.

Following the death of Michael Brown, who was shot and killed by a white police officer just last month, peaceful and violent protests alike have emerged in the already tense community.

While Brown's supporters allege that the 18-year-old teen raised his hands to show that he meant no harm before he was shot, officers and other witnesses state that he attacked Wilson and tried to take the cop's gun, forcing the law enforcer to shoot him.
