Chinese swimmers win 50 meters backstroke gold and silver


Beijing--August 2nd, at the 2013 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona, Spain, China's Zhao Jing won the gold medal in the women's 50 meters backstroke in 27.29 seconds. China's another swimmer Fu Yuanhui took the silver medal in 27.39 seconds. And Japan's Aya Terakawa took bronze in 27.53.

Zhao Jing has achieved four gold medals in World Championships. At the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Zhao Jing won a gold and became the world-record holder with a time of 27.06 seconds in the event. So far, Zhao Jing is still the world-record holder of the women's 50 meters backstroke. At the 2009 FINA World Championships, Zhao Jing won the 4x100 meter medley relay gold medal with her compatriots. At the 2011 World Swimming Championships in Shanghai, Zhao Jing won the gold medal in women's 100 meters backstroke finals.

Fu Yuanhui is still a teenager born in 1996. She became famous at the 2011 World Youth Championships while she won the silver medal in the 100 meters backstroke.

Zhao Jing told journalists after today's game that she was trying to bounce back from her setback in 2012 London Olympic Games. Zhao said: "I am happy I can prove myself with the gold medal. After 2012 London Olympic Games, I have been suffering some injury problems and my performance was not good. So I am eager to prove myself."

Fu Yuanhui said she was very happy, as Chinese swimming team has collected four medals at the 2013 World Swimming Championships. She said modestly: "I made some mistakes in today's game because of lack of experience. But I will learn more in the future. I didn't have much experience in such large completion, so I am happy I can achieve this result."
