ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) militants executed more than 700 Iraqi soldiers in June when they attacked a military base in northern Baghdad, international watchdog Human Rights Watch revealed.

The watchdog described the mass slaughter as one of the worst killings as the group seized the western and northern parts of Iraq. The atrocity happened at Camp Speicher, which once served as a U.S. facility.

The figures were not accurate when the slaughter was initially reported. Recently, Human Rights Watch released a statement saying they have new evidence to safely say ISIS captured and killed between 560 and 770 troops.

Human Rights Watch analyzed the photos released on a pro-militant website as well as the satellite images captured. Both images showed between 160 and 190 men killed in two different locations from June 11 to June 14 this year, reports said.

No other images were released or captured, that is why the estimated number was that low compared to the newly-released figures.

However, a survivor confirmed this Wednesday that there were three more "mass execution sites". The watchdog compared his statement to the newly-released satellite images and videos.

On June 14, the organization verified an image showing a militant leading Iraqi soldiers dressed in plain clothes away from a certain place. They found out that the militants took over another base in Tikrit, Iraq, and the image was consistent with reports.

After the photo was posted to a militant site, the soldiers were listed as missing. The families of the missing soldiers staged protests in Baghdad to press the authorities to do something about the situation.

The soldiers' families held a demonstration on Tuesday, storming the parliament in Baghdad and forcing the speaker to talk about the missing soldiers.

On Wednesday, the families of the soldiers accused the authorities of "selling" their sons. They said the authorities ordered the soldiers to leave their posts and leave the camp wearing civilian clothes.

Acting Defense Minister Saadoun al-Dulaimi released a statement denying the allegations of the families. However, a survivor named Thaer Abdul-Karim said that the authorities ordered them on June 12 to surrender their weapons and leave camp.

Abdul-Karim also said authorities told them military trucks were waiting for them but they were met by gunmen who began shooting at them once they were on the highway.
