In their most recent match, an undermanned Shanghai eleven was able to pull off a 1-1 draw with current league leaders and defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC on the road at the Tianhe Stadium on May 29, Shanghai Daily reported.

After a goalless first half, the Southern China Tigers finally broke the deadlock with a goal from Brazilian midfielder Ricardo Goulart three minutes after the hour mark. The shot came from an assist by local striker Gao Lin, giving the hosts a crucial one-point lead.

Sven-Göran Eriksson's side, who are enduring the absence of imports Dario Conca (suspension) and Asamoah Gyan (injury) while also missing Brazilian striker Elkeson because of contract stipulations, fought on and equalized the match at the 70th minute with a goal from Ivorian forward Jean Evrard Kouassi off a pass by Red Eagles vice-captain Wang Shenchao.

Meanwhile, Jiangsu Suning settled to a 1-1 tie with lowly club Hangzhou Greentown FC at their home field of Nanjing Olympic Sports Center on May 28, via Soccerway.

Brazilian striker Jô netted the opening goal at the 27th for the hosts while Australia's top goal scorer, Tim Cahill, scored the equalizer for the Green Giants with two minutes left before full time.

It was the third straight winless effort for the now-sacked head coach Dan Petrescu as Jiangsu fell to the third spot of the league table after being in the top two for several weeks.

Petrescu will be replaced by interim manager Tang Jing in this match against SIPG.

The predicted result is a close 2-1 victory for Shanghai SIPG.
