Hyundai has unveiled the latest generation of the Verna at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. The vehicle looks like a shrunken version of the successful Elantra.

Its striking new design gives the new generation Verna a more executive look. The Verna, just like the recently launched Elantra, has a contemporary design with tidbits picked up from here and there. The hexagonal grille on the front looks similar to Audi's signature front grille.

The new Verna would be powered by a 100hp 1.4 or a 123hp 1.6, mated to a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic system. The new Hyundai Verna measures 4380mm in length, 1728mm in width, and 1468mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2600mm, which makes the sedan much larger than its predecessor, NDTV Auto reported. The new version gets its wheelbase extended by 30mm, making for improved rear seat legroom.

Based on the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, the new generation Hyundai Verna is angular. The bold trapezoidal grille takes center stage at the front with massive chrome finished horizontal slats, while the swept back headlamps are reminiscent of the ones of the existing model, only sharper. However, the cluster does come with projector lights, LED DRLs, while the bumper gets angular fog lamps.

Hyundai has added some hip to the Verna; it comes with a racy spoiler that is fully integrated into the boot lid, and it has an infotainment system with an eight-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. Other features include auto climate control, cruise control, sunroof, push button start, and much more, according to Forbes. However, the interior is very basic and gray.

The Verna would be cheap. Prices start at 73,900 up to 106,900 yuan ($11,000 – $16,000). The vehicle is made in China by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture. The new car would be launched first in the Chinese market in October and early in 2017 to the rest of the world.

The South Korean Automotive manufacturer’s new car would compete against the Honda City, the Maruti Ciaz, the Fiat Linea, the Volkswagen Vento, and the Skoda Rapid when it hits the market next year.
