"This is my greatest achievement in the Paralympics. I was confident of winning before the tournament started, but also nervous," Cao told the Paralympic News Service. "It feels weird to be the gold medalist but now I have to prepare for the men's team event."

With the win, Cao has now secured two Paralympic gold medals and a single class 5 silver medal, which he took from the last quadrennial sporting event.

China's other table tennis gold medals were won by Feng Panfeng in the men's singles class 3 and Liu Jing in the women's singles classes 1-2.

Feng claimed his third successive Paralympic table tennis singles class 3 gold medal after beating Thomas Schmidberger of Germany in four sets. The 26-year-old Chinese paddler took the match 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8.

Liu Jing, on the other hand, overcame Seo Su-Yeon of the South Korea in the championship stage of the women's singles class 1-2 event to claim her third Paralympic gold medal with an impressive 11-6, 9-11, 12-10, 19-17 triumph. Liu has also won the highest honor at the 2008 Beijing Games and 2012 London Paralympics.

China has secured 11 gold medals in total on the fifth day of the major international competition. China currently has 50 gold, 40 silver, and 28 bronze medals.
