During the meeting, Xi thanked Pedro for picking China as the first country he would visit after assuming office. He assured Peru of China's support as the South American country prepares to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders meeting.

"Mr. President is an old friend of China and has contributed a lot in promoting bilateral ties," Xi said. "You have chosen China as your first foreign destination. It shows you and your government have attached great importance to developing ties with China.

The Chinese leader explained that the Chinese community is ready to assist Peru in whichever way necessary to ensure that not only APEC is a success but also spurs worldwide economic growth.

The APEC meeting is scheduled for November this year and will be held in Lima, Peru's capital city.

President Xi would be attending the event as a special guest.

Pedro added that Peru looks up to China for its in-depth exposure in the industrial field.

"This visits the Peruvian people's admiration toward China for its achievements in independent development," Pedro told Xi.

Before his trip, Pedro noted that the Peruvian government aims to attract investment from countries like China while promoting economic development by maintaining an open-door foreign policy.
