Chinese Paralympians Near 100 Gold Medals Mark at Rio Olympics

Chinese Paralympians are nearing the 100 gold mark after the country's table tennis participants won two events and its wheelchair fencing participants also won another event at the Rio Olympics on Friday.

At the end of the ninth day of the Rio 2016 Paralympics events, China stood first place with a total of 216 medals: 93 gold, 74 silver and 49 bronze.

China's Paralympics men's table tennis team defeated Germany 2-1 in one of the most entertaining finals.

German players Thomas Schmidberger and Thomas Bruchle opened the first round with a win against China's Feng Panfeng and Zhao Ping 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-6).

In the singles competition, China's Feng secured a clean sheet after beating Schmiderger 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-6). Meanwhile, Zhai Xiang overcame Bruchle Thomas in an astonishing five setter 3-2 (11-9, 11-6, 6-11, 9-11, 11-5).

China also chalked nother victory in table tennis after Li Qian and Xue Juan beat Croatia's Andela Muzinic and Helena Dretar Karic 1-3.

The Chinese Paralympians set the pace after they won the doubles encounter 3-0 (11-6, 11-2, 11-4) then Li wrapped up an early tie close at 3-1 (11-3, 11-13, 11-5) in the singles competition.

The Chinese wheelchair fencing team made their homeland proud as well in the men's final.

Sung Gang, Ye Ruyi, and Hu Daoliang beat Poland's Michal Nalewajek, Dariusz Pender, and Jacek Gaworski 45-27 to win the gold.

Chinese Paralympians have not only won more medals than any other country, but they have also set several new records.

As of Tuesday, September 13, Chinese Paralympians had broken six records; three of which were broken by the same athletes who set them.
