Apart from losing the game to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Miami Marlins also lost Giancarlo Stanton, who got hit on the face with a fastball during the game.

In the fifth inning, Mike Fiers was pitching against Stanton. He threw a fastball that went way right and struck Stanton on the face.

He slumped to the ground as people gathered to look at the damage. He had sustained multiple facial fractures, dental damage, and cuts that needed to be stitched up.

Stanton was the Marlins' top player. He led the Major League for runs batted in (RBI) and was a candidate for the National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

He had 37 home runs, 105 RBI, and was batting at an average of .288.

While he would return to Miami on Friday, when his father asked if he would return to the season, Marlins manager Mike Redmond said, "It does not look good."

Despite the hit on Stanton's face, the umpire said that he was going in a swinging motion, prompting him to call a strike instead of awarding him a base.

Reed Johnson went in to bat for Stanton.

A visibly shaken Fiers was left in the game by Brewers manager Ron Roenicke.

His next pitch grazed Johnson in the hand, but instead of getting on base, he was called out again by the umpire, saying that he went with the swinging motion.

This call tipped the scales and emptied out the Marlins bench.

Marlins Manager Mike Redmond and Casey McGeehee were ejected from the game for their complaints.

The Brewers went on to win the game, 4-2.
