Just a week after GoPro Inc. introduced its much-awaited quadcopter Karma, market leader SZ DJI Technology refused to be out-droned and released on Tuesday the Mavic Pro.

DJI's Mavic Pro is a foldable model that can be operated with a smartphone and controller, has a fly time of up to 27 minutes, and can exceed 40mph in "Sport" mode. It has a 4k, 12-megapixel camera with a 78-degree field of view and a three-axis gimbal.

With a price tag $999 for the deluxe model that comes with a controller, the Mavic Pro boasts of shake-free videos and livestreaming support to Facebook Live, Periscope, and YouTube. GoPro's Karma, on the other hand, retails at $799 but could reach up to $1,099 to bundle with a Hero 5 black camera, according to Bloomberg.

Just like the cutting-edge features in the larger and more expensive DJI Phantom 4, the new Mavic Pro also has collision-avoidance feature where it uses data from its cameras and multiple sensors to avoid trees, buildings, and moving objects, CNN noted.

It also has other unique features including the ability to maintain a specific height above the ground, snap a selfie when a camera-snap gesture is initiated, and focus on the drone users when they wave their arms, The Wall Street Journal reported. Users can also pair the drone with DJI goggles to see that the drone is actually seeing.

The Mavic Pro is now available for preorder, and shipping starts on Oct. 15. It can also be ordered on Apple Inc.'s website and will be on Apple store shelves in early November.
