Second-seeded player Rafael Nadal of Spain successfully advanced to the second round of the ongoing 2016 China Open on Tuesday after easily defeating Paulo Lorenzi of Italy in two-straight sets 6-1, 6-1 victory on Sunday at the National Tennis Center's Diamond Court in Beijing.

Nadal, who is fourth in the latest ATP world rankings, said that he is delighted with his performance on the court, according to Xinhua. The win marked the 30-year-old Nadal's third consecutive victory against the world No.35 Lorenzi in the four official matches that they have played.

"Today I think I played a very solid match, playing very aggressive with my forehand," Nadal said. "I only played one not very good game. That was in 3-1 of the first set. But for the rest I played a very good match. I very happy."

Nadal, who is gunning for his third ATP World Tour title of the season, was rarely tested on serve in the 64-minute game. The Spaniard claimed 79 percent of his first-serve points, including five aces, and saved both break points.

Nadal will be facing the winner between Adrian Mannarino of France and fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round of the biggest tennis competition on the Asian leg of the WTA calendar.

Meanwhile, China's Peng Shuai produced the biggest upset in the opening round of the women's singles draw after ousting former world No. 1 Venus Williams of the United States. Peng, 30, who entered the event as a wildcard, posted a stunning 7-5, 6-1 victory against Williams, who is the tournament's sixth-seeded player.

Peng is currently ranked No. 223 in the latest WTA women's single world ranking, while Williams holds No. 13 spot.
