"Gears of War 4" developer The Coalition has announced that a movie adaption of the popular video game series is currently in the works.

The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson said that a movie based on the "Gears of War" video game series would be "the next logical step" for the franchise. Fergusson added that they have already tackled novels and comics in the past, and now they are looking for the opportunity to finally bring the series to the big screen.

The official story line of the upcoming film has yet been confirmed. There are speculations about whether the film will be a straight adaptation of the video game, which follows the adventures of Marcus Fenix against an invading alien race known as the Locust, or a new story line based on the "Gears of War" universe will be created, according to The Verge.

In an interview with Variety, Fergusson said, "I think you have to let the movies be the movies. They're two different mediums, and two different audiences in some cases, and I think some video game movies in the past have failed because they tried to make a movie for gamers."

The idea of a movie based on the "Gears of War" video game series has been floating around for some time. New Line Cinema obtained the rights to the game the same year when the first "Gears of War" title was released. Rumors about the project have been circulating on since 2012.

The film adaptation of "Gears of War" may take years to be completed. For now, gamers can have their fix with the upcoming release of "Gears of War 4" on Oct. 11 exclusively for the Xbox One and Windows PC platforms.
