Veteran wingman Alonzo Gee could lose his roster spot with the New Orleans Pelicans as the club seems to favor Lance Stephenson in the ongoing 2016-2017 NBA Preseason Games.

The Times Picayune reported that Gee only averaged five minutes of playing time after two preseason matches as head coach Alvin Gentry has favored new signee Lance Stephenson at the small forward spot.

Gee's five-minute average exposure is said to be the lowest among New Orleans' 19 players at the moment even though he is completely injury-free.

Stephenson has performed strongly in the preseason so far, and Coach Gentry awarded him a total of 53 minutes of playing time in the two games.

If the trend continues, then Gee could potentially lose his place in the Pelicans' final 15-man regular season roster even though his one-year, $1.4 million contract is fully guaranteed by the club.

"We're going to evaluate every practice, every game, every play," said Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps with regards to the composition of the team's final 15. "The key is not going to be who's the best player, but the key's going to be who's the best player for us to be a good team."

At the moment, Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, and Quincy Pondexter are all sidelined and are projected to skip the first few games of the regular season.

With that, Stephenson has a high chance of barging in the final roster more than Gee as the former Indiana Pacer is versatile enough to play both wing positions as well as the point guard spot if needed.

ESPN noted that Stephenson was signed to a partially guaranteed contract before training camp last month and was rumored to be an experiment for Gentry. It turned out that he is a better fit than Gee and now Gentry must make a decision about who will be left out before the new season starts later this month.
