After teasing the app earlier in the week, Kevin Rose, co-founder of Digg, has released "Tiiny," the first app from his new mobile startup company, Northern Technologies.

A grid of 212-by-212 pixel looping videos and pictures is shown on Tiiny, which was made available to the public Friday.

The images, which are deleted automatically after a day, can't be zoomed in to get a better view. The idea behind the program is based on the Explore/Hashtag views on media sharing app Instagram.

The premise is that smaller sized photos and videos cause less pressure when shared.

The Tiiny uses one's Twitter credentials to sign in. It automatically lists the people the user follows on the social site, although the user has the option to remove individuals.

The problem of signing up and not being able to see content was solved by including the auto-follow feature.

The user need only tap the shutter button to take a picture or hold it to take videos to make a post.

The image is posted immediately but if the user isn't satisfied, he can delete the image by swiping left on the screen. Swiping left on someone else's movie or photo, however, hides the content on the user's feed and flags it as inappropriate.

One of the interesting features about the photo sharing app is that it doesn't initially reveal who posted the image.

To find out who made the post, a user can tap and hold on the screen to see the list of people who have images on the grid. The app also displays the number of likes for each post.

A profile page with settings and notifications and a list of popular posts are Tiiny's only other screens.

The Digg co-founder said in a blog post it took his team of five programmers three weeks to develop the app.
