2016 Shanghai Rolex Masters News: Andy Murray Advances to 3rd Round

Second seeded player Andy Murray of the Great Britain continued his winning ways and advances to the third round of the 2016 Shanghai Rolex Masters with ease after comfortably beating Steve Johnson of the United States on Wednesday in the biggest city of China.

According to Sky Sports, the newly-crowned China Open winner flaunted his dominance over Johnson with an impressive two-straight set 6-3, 6-2 triumph in their second round match in Shanghai. Murray needed just one hour and 14 minutes to claim the victory and registered his third win against the 26-year-old American, who currently ranks No. 24 in the world.

"I played well tonight, I like the conditions here and hopefully I can continue that tomorrow," the reigning Summer Olympic Games champion and incumbent world No. 2 said after the match.

With the victory, the 29-year-old native of Glasgow, Scotland will be facing the event's 13th seed Frenchman Lucas Pouille, who won over Fernando Verdasco of Spain in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, for a quarterfinals berth on Thursday.

Basing from the official website of the ATP World Tour, Murray enjoyed the upper hand in their head-to-head matchup as the British No. 1 men's singles tennis player defeated the 22-year-old Pouille at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Rome in Italy in May. Pouille currently holds the 16th spot in the latest world rankings, who has won 31 of the 50 matches he played this year.

"It will be a hard match (against Pouille)," Murray said. "He goes for his shots, serves well and is quick around the court." 

Meanwhile, current world No. 5 Rafael Nadal of Spain had a stunning 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) defeat against the 31st-ranked Viktor Troicki of Serbia in their second round match. The14-time major winner suffered his first ever loss to the 30-year-old Serbian tennis ace in six official meetings.
