The NFL Players Association has voted to accept the new drug-testing policy which increases the threshold for marijuana use and implements testing for human growth hormone. As an effect, it will also reduce or overturn drug-related suspensions.

However, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said that the league is still facing problems with the policy.

"We have not yet reached an agreement with the union," said Aiello on Friday. "There continue to be significant unresolved issues."

A Saturday agreement was needed in order for suspended players like Denver Broncos receiver Welker and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Scandrick to be reinstated for Week 2 games.

The Players Association claimed in an earlier statement that they are looking forward to seal the deal with the NFL.

''We hope to have final agreements, including effective date for players with adjusted discipline, very soon.''

Welker tested positive for Amphetamine use during the offseason and has been suspended for four games in Sept.2. The 11-year NFL veteran denied the drug-use allegations and even claimed that he will fix the league's drug policy.

His performance-enhancing drug violation could be switched into substance-abuse if ever the policy change pushes through.

Fellow Broncos players Jacob Temme his expressed his desire to see Welker's suspension being lifted.

''All I know is he's one of the best teammates and guys in this locker room, one of the best guys I've ever played with. My understanding is if this policy gets passed, it will benefit guys like him. So, obviously, there was something wrong with the system.''

Scandrick said that his positive drug test was an effect of a recreational drug he took in Mexico. He claimed that he was unaware of it being laced with Amphetamine.

Cleveland Browns' Josh Gordon who's suspended for the whole season is also eligible to have his punishment reduced or overturned when the new policy sets in.
